How Alaska taxes your paycheck
Alaska does not tax wages. The only state deduction most workers see is the employee share of unemployment insurance: 0.5% of wages until you have earned $54,200 in 2026. After that point in the year the deduction stops.
Because the cap is reached at $54,200, anyone earning more than that pays the same $271 for the year. On a per-paycheck view the calculator spreads that amount evenly across the year.
| Deduction | Rate | Applies to wages up to |
|---|---|---|
| Federal income tax | 10% to 37% | No limit |
| Social Security | 6.2% | $184,500 |
| Medicare | 1.45% (2.35% over $200,000) | No limit |
| Alaska income tax | None | – |
| Alaska unemployment insurance | 0.5% | $54,200 |
- Alaska unemployment insurance: Employees pay 0.5% of wages up to $54,200 in 2026, so the most anyone pays this year is $271.
How to use the Alaska paycheck calculator
Enter your salary, or your hourly wage and hours, choose how often you are paid and pick the filing status on your W-4. The calculator estimates your Alaska (AK) take-home pay for each paycheck and for the year, after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Alaska payroll deductions.
It follows the published withholding formulas that employers' payroll systems use, so it works as a paycheck estimator for a job offer, a raise or a change to your W-4. Open "401(k), benefits and W-4 details" to add pre-tax deductions, dependents or extra withholding. Your real paycheck can differ if your employer takes out deductions the calculator does not know about.
